Vintage card trick:  Bill Pryor's My Pet Deck
Effect:  Different and Funny.  You explain that your pet deck can read the mind of a spectator and communicate with him.  He cuts the cards and remembers one of them.  You cut the chosen card back into the center and ask the spectator to turn over the top card.   Your pet deck tells him it is not ready.  You ask the pet deck if it is ready and it replies, "YES".   You cut the cards and tell him to remember the top card but the pet deck tells the spectator to ask for a choice of cards.   You start turning cards face up, but your pet deck tells you to do it face down.  You then give the spectator a free choice of four different face down cards.  You again cut the cards and ask the spectator to turn over the top card.   The pet deck asks for a hint.  You ask the spectator whether it is a red or black card and he tells you.  Next, the pet deck asks for another hint and you put down your foot and say "NO".  You remove a card from your pocket which is shown to be blank.  This card is then placed on the top of the deck and you threaten to recycle the deck if it doesn't produce.   The spectator then turns over the card and printed on the card is the name of the selected card.
This routine comes from the estate of a home magician.   The instructions include handwritten notes from him.
